I left Carroll and went to Texas A&M and graduated in 1964. Following graduation and commissioning at A&M my first Air Force assignment was as a student, then an instructor in the Munitions Officer School at Lowry AFB, Denver. Next job was probably the highlight of my career (or at least the highlight I can talk about). I was somehow picked for a two-year assignment to NASA/Houston during the Apollo program. I was there from Sept '67 to Sept '69 and couldn't have picked a better time. During that period we flew 3 unmanned and 5 manned missions, culminating in the first lunar landing, Apollo 11. A few years after I left, they changed the name of the facility from Manned Spacecraft Center to Johnson Space Center. I've told my grandkids it's named after me, and they pretend to believe me.
After NASA I had two more assignments in Munitions; at Eglin AFB, Florida, then Clark Air Base, Philippines. Left Clark in '72 and got back into Space Operations. I was assigned to the NORAD/Cheyenne Mountain Complex, Colorado Springs, where I worked as an Orbital Analyst in the Space Defense Center. I then spent a year at a missile warning/spacetrack radar site at Thule AB, Greenland. From there, to Nebraska, where I was in charge of operations at the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program's control center at Offutt AFB. My last USAF job was as Operations Officer at another missile warning/spacetrack radar site, this one at Beale AFB, CA. Retired in 1984 as a Major.
Following retirement from the Air Force, I got a job with Martin Marietta (now Lockheed Martin) in Denver. I worked a few years as a Systems Engineer, then became a Software Engineer, specializing in testing software, which is what I do now. Most of the programs I've worked on at Lockheed Martin are the kind I can't talk about, but trust me, they are important to our nation's security.
Married Sharon O'Neal who went to Carroll her sophomore year. We have three kids and six awesome grandchildren. We have now been in the Denver area for over 26 years. All three of our kids followed in my footsteps and went to Texas A&M.
